LOS FELIZ—On April 3, at 1:15 p.m. the LAFD reported a hiker in distress near Dante’s View, above the Observatory, in
GriffithPark. The hiker/jogger, in her early 20s, was found unconscious and breathing. Her unconscious condition was possibly heat related.
At 2:39 p.m. the hiker was airlifted by LAFD Airship number five to a local hospital, reportedly Cedars-Sinai. Her condition was believed to be non life-threatening, although medical attention was needed.
It is important to remember some safety precautions for hikers and joggers. Take layers of clothing for fluctuations in temperatures, such as hats and sweaters. Try to have a hiking or jogging buddy. Let someone know where you are going and approximately when you plan to return, this way that person can notify emergency services if you do not return. Finally with temperatures increasing, make sure to bring plenty of water to avoid dehydration or heat exhaustion.
