MALIBU—The lease for Casa Malibu Inn, the scenic beachfront hotel along the Pacific Coast Highway, will end on September 10, which will mark the end of 60 years of successful hotel business. The hotel which is near the famous tourist attraction of the Malibu Pier was a getaway for celebrities, tourists and
Malibu locals since 1950.
The hotel has been run by Richard and Joan Page since 1991. The inn was famous for its reputation as a hotel where celebrities and famous figures got their privacy.
The property was bought by software billionaire and
Malibu real estate tycoon Larry Ellison in 2007 for $20 million. There are plans to open a luxury hotel with a Japanese concept that will complement the famous celebrity restaurant Nobu in the region.
The property is now being remodeled by Severine Tatangelo, who is the co-owner of the
Malibu design and development firm. The renovation plans also include reducing the number of rooms from 21 to 16. The remodeling permit does not allow for the complete destruction of the site.
Famous celebrity guests at the Casa Malibu Inn have included Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon and Lana Turner to name a few.
