MALIBU—City commissioners have decided to give a three hour parking limit to 29 parking spaces in Malibu’s Civic Center. The Civic Center is located on Cross Creek Road.
The parking limit will be set for seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. According to officials, many vehicles have been reported to be parked in the spaces at the Civic Center for long periods of times, taking up spaces that could be used by others. A survey taken in October 2012 found that “over nine days, 41 cars parked in the same areas on Cross Creek for extended periods of time.” Officials are implementing the new parking limit to allow the opening of parking spaces and to discourage individuals who park in this area long term.
City officials expect the new parking limit to allow more parking spaces during prime hours to help both residents and businesses in the area. The Civic Center is located in the center of many popular locations in Malibu including the Malibu Lagoon, Surfrider Beach, and Adamson House.
