MALIBU—On Wednesday, August 21, a fire broke on the 23000 block of the
Pacific Coast Highway on the Malibu Pier. The fire department received the call approximately at 1:31 p.m. Canyon News contacted the fire department who indicated the cause of the fire appears to be from “discarded smoking material,” such as a match or a cigarette butt.
The west side of the pier was the section that was largely damaged and roughly twenty planks were damaged, according to reports.
The pier was immediately evacuated. The fire was put out within five minutes and re-opened around 2:45 p.m. Estimated damages from the fire are said to be around $2000, according to the authorities.
