MALIBU—Two small brush fires broke out in the Malibu area on top of Encinal Canyon on Saturday, June 22. The fire which began just after 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon forced the closure of Encinal Canyon Road up to Lechusa Road. The fire was contained and burned approximately 1.5 acres.
A second fire broke out near the Point Dume Club, which is a famous mobile home community near the ocean in Malibu. This fire was also contained and burned less than 1 acre of brush. No buildings were in danger and no injuries were reported after either of these fires.
The Malibu fires were two of four locations that experienced fires on Saturday. There was a fire reported on the south side of the I-5 freeway in the Newhall Pass in Santa Clarita which burned 12 acres and another fire began beside Templin Highway in Castaic and burned approximately 13 acres.
