MALIBU—On November 27, two people were injured in a violent collision as a result of apparent drag racing, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
The incident occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway at around 12:30 p.m., when the driver of a Dodge Viper was found speeding eastbound near Trancas Canyon Road, possibly in an impromptu drag race with another motorist.
The Viper spun out of the driver’s control and was sent into a westbound lane, where it crashed into a Nissan Pathfinder before erupting into flames. The driver suffered from bumps to the head and chest pains and was transported to a hospital by ambulance.
The Pathfinder, driven by a woman who’s two children—ages four and seven—were
in the vehicle, overturned and landed on its hood on the highway. Though the children were uninjured, the mother suffered from a broken leg and was airlifted to the UCLA Medical Center.
A closure was placed on the P.C.H. in both directions until about 2:20 p.m. The other possible suspect in the alleged street racing incident is believed to have left the scene of the crash. Whether the driver of the Viper has been charged in the incident is unknown as of press time.
