Kerry Max Cook to Visit Malibu Library
Posted by Carmen Herrera on Apr 5, 2013 - 10:50:16 AM

MALIBUThe Malibu Library Speaker Series continues with Kerry Max Cook, whose past history with the justice system was the root of origin to his critically-acclaimed book, “Chasing Justice: My Story of Freeing Myself After Two Decades on Death Row for a Crime I Didn't Commit.”

Cook shares his real-life story of the horror he encountered when he served 20 years on death row in a Texas prison for the rape and murder of Linda Jo Edwards in 1977. Cook was later exonerated and his case was overturned following a second trial. He was released in 1999 after two decades and has since become an author, teacher and advocate against the death penalty.

His book, “Chasing Justice,” has been acclaimed by many publications such as Reader’s Digest and Publisher's Weekly, who have given the book spectacular reviews. Cook’s story was covered by many media outlets and has even been adapted on the big screen and on Broadway. The film, titled “The Exonerated,” was released in January 2005 and stars Brian Dehney, Danny Glover and Susan Sarandon and was also met with positive reviews from US Weekly and Entertainment Weekly.
