MALIBU—Planning commissioner Mike Pierson is currently hospitalized after being involved in a mountain biking accident on the Fourth of July. He sustained a punctured lung, several broken bones and a concussion.
He is recovering at
Thousand Oaks. He could be released as soon as Monday, but he won’t be fully recovered for at least six weeks. Pierson was wearing a helmet during the incident, which may be responsible for saving his life.
He was mountain biking with a group, when he picked up too much speed on a steep portion of
Malibu’s Backbone Trail. He flew off his bike about 35 feet into the air and landed on his head. He will likely need surgery from the hip fracture he sustained.
