Malibu Courthouse ends its 23 year service
MALIBU—The Malibu Courthouse will end its 23-year serve on May 31 due to budget cuts.
Last November, the county reported project budget shortfalls of up to $85 million in the Superior Court system’s $734 budget. Detailed information of where cases will be transferred and how court house employees will be impacted were revealed recently.
By June 3, all Malibu traffic and non-traffic infraction cases will be transferred to the Santa Monica courthouse which is the closest court from Malibu.
Official said the county hasn’t made final decision yet whether traffic tickets can still be paid at the Malibu ticket counter next to the courthouse.
Felony and misdemeanor cases will have hearings at Van Nuys Courthouse.
During the 2011-2012 fiscal year, Malibu Courthouse filed a total of 45,670 cases including 35,535 traffic infractions, 4,333 misdemeanor filings and 5,148 non-traffic infractions. Thirteen courthouse employees are set to transfer to other courthouses as well.
