Malibu Receives Grant For PCH Projects
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Jan 29, 2013 - 8:39:40 PM

MALIBU—The city of Malibu received approval for more than $14 million in Measure R grant funds for improvements to Pacific Coast Highway as well as several intersections.

"Public safety remains the City's top priority and these Measure R funds allow us to execute significant traffic safety improvement projects that will improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists," said Mayor Lou La Monte in a statement. "We extend our gratitude to the City's Public Works Department, the Los Angeles County Metro Transit Authority and Caltrans for working together toward more protective roadways."

The funds will be distributed over the next four years. The grant will also let the City conduct various projects that rely on the results of the Pacific Coast Highway Safety Study which is nearly complete. The study is on safety improvements that are recommended for the 21 miles of the highway that are located from the eastern to western Malibu city limits.

The grant funds was awarded by the Los Angeles County Metro Transit Authority (MTA). According to a press release from the city of Malibu, it will fund "bike lane improvements and median enhancements on PCH between Webb Way and Corral Canyon Road, a left turn signal phase at PCH and Big Rock, arrestor bed improvements at Kanan Dume Road, Regional traffic messaging that will include permanent, mobile messaging systems and reconstruction of Civic Center Way."

Measure R was passed by Los Angeles county voters in 2008 which granted $40 billion to go to traffic relief and transportation upgrades for the next 30 years throughout the county.
