MALIBU—The city will be hosting it's annual "Day Without A Bag" on Thursday, December 20. The event celebrates the city’s ban of plastic shopping bags and promotes the use of re-usable bags by providing a free bag give away at the Malibu City Hall.

Since 2007, Heal the Bay has been hosting this event. Those interested can stop by city hall at either the reception area, senior center or the city's holiday party, which takes place from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

According to malibucity.org, over 4 million citizens in California live in neighborhoods where plastic bags are banned, and there are 5 million people in California who live in cities that are seeking to attain bag ban ordinances. If and when these ordinances pass, 1 out of 3 Californians will have stopped using plastic shopping bags.

With support of local businesses, including the Malibu County Mart, “Day Without a Bag” will bring awareness of the harm that is created by using plastic bags, and the benefits of using reusable ones, such as the conservation of energy and natural resources, reducing excessive waste in landfills, reducing pollution, and promoting an overall cleaner environment.
