There were nine arrests and two cars impounded.

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station ran a sobriety checkpoint on Pacific Coast Highway between 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., according to a release from the Sheriff's Department. The release stated that checkpoints are placed in areas where drunk driving is most likely to be achieved.

In total, roughly 1,460 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 1,240 drivers checked by on-site personnel. From the drivers checked, deputies made nine arrests and one person was detained for a DUI. Two people were arrested for driving with revoked or suspended licenses. Another six drivers were arrested for being unlicensed and then sent to court.

In addition, two vehicles were impounded for 30 days; two additional vehicles were held for only one day; and five other vehicles were released “per checkpoint release procedures.”

The release also included some tips for designated drivers, which included arranging rides for friends, family and co-workers before any planned event. For parties, it was advised that the amount of drinks be cut down, while a good amount of food is properly doled out.

To report drunk drivers, residents are advised to dial 911. They may also call 800-222-8477 to leave anonymous tips.
