MALIBU—Scottie Pippen, the former NBA star who was accused of assaulting a man on Sunday, June 23, will not be charged for the incident, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Pippen was accused of causing a head injury to Camran Shafighi, 49, who had allegedly asked for his autograph outside the famous celebrity restaurant, Nobu in Malibu. Shafighi allegedly was intoxicated during the incident, according to witness accounts. Pippen voluntarily came forward to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and had been cooperative with the Sherriff’s office during their investigation.

Pippen was accused of kicking Shafighi several times and spitting on him and the suit claimed by Shafighi accused Pippen of assault and battery. Prosecutors finalized that there was a lack of evidence to put criminal charges on Pippen for the incident because it was unclear whether Pippen had acted in self-defense or not. Pippen still faces a $4 million lawsuit from Shafighi that claims that Pippen spit on him, kicked and punched him.

Pippen, 47, was named as one of NBA’s greatest 50 players in 1996 and won six NBA titles along with basketball legend Michael Jordan. He serves as a special advisor to the Chicago Bulls and as the chief operating officer.
