Stolen Range Rover Found In Malibu
Posted by Helya Askari on May 7, 2013 - 8:54:55 PM

MALIBU—The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Malibu Search and Rescue announced on Monday, May 6 that a Range Rover was found 300 feet below the side of Decker Canyon Road in Malibu.

At approximately 7.23 a.m., a Caltrans crew reported the Range Rover to the LASD. While there was no one found inside the car, the SUV was reported stolen earlier in the month according to police.

No suspects have been identified in connection to the theft of the vehicle. The Lost Hills station area has noticed an increase in vehicle theft in the past few weeks. Police have issued the following tips to protect individuals from falling victim to such theft.

ӢNever leave your car running unattended, even to dash into a business, store, etc.

ӢNever leave any keys in the car or ignition, inside a locked garage, or in hide-a-key boxes.

ӢAlways roll up your windows and lock the car, even if it is parked in front of your home or in your driveway.

ӢNever leave valuables in plain view, even if your car is locked. Put them in the trunk out of sight.

ӢAlways park in high-traffic, well-lighted areas when possible.

ӢInstall a mechanical device that locks the steering wheel column, or brakes. These devices will deter some criminals.

ӢNever leave personal identification documents, vehicle ownership title, or credit cards in your vehicle.

ӢIf you must leave your key with a valet, parking attendant, or mechanic, leave only the ignition key. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable firm.

ӢCopy your license plate and vehicle identification (VIN) numbers on a card and keep them with you. If your vehicle is stolen, the police will need this information to take a report

ӢMany vehicles today come with some type of security system from the factory. Normally there are upgraded systems available if you ask. The best choices are systems that shut off the fuel supply so that a car can't be started or driven.

”¢If your vehicle is stolen, report it to the Sheriff’s Department immediately.
