MALIBU—A 45-year-old truck driver was killed in a hit-and-run accident along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The incident occurred on Monday, February 11 at approximately 9 p.m. on PCH at John Tyler Drive near Pepperdine University.
Platinum Tow and Transport truck.
Newbury Park resident, Ronald Carver, worked for Platinum Tow and Transport and was helping a stranded motorist when a speeding Audi hit the edge of the tow truck and struck Carver. The vehicle did a full barrel role in the air yet managed to land on its feet and continued eastbound on PCH for two miles. Police reported that Carver died on impact.
A short time after police arrived at the scene, another call was made which reported an accident with a vehicle that had the same description as the Audi involved in the hit-and-run. The witness whose vehicle was being towed by Carver positively identified the Audi at the second collision in the 22900 block of PCH near Malibu Pier.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Jill Rose of Santa Monica, was arrested and then taken to UCLA Medical Center in critical condition with a brain hemorrhage. She is hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
She is being investigated for felony hit-and-run as well as vehicular manslaughter. It is unclear whether or not Rose was under the influence during the time of the accident. Authorities also reported she had a history of opiate abuse.
Due to the accident and the investigation, the eastbound lanes of PCH near John Tyler Drive and the Malibu Pier were closed. Traffic was diverted to the wesbound lanes until around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.
