MALIBU—Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket three Malibu churches later this month, according to their website. Westboro is a Kansas-based group that is fundamentalist, anti-gay and known for protesting military funerals.

The protests are planned for 8:45 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 24 beginning at Malibu Presbyterian Church, continuing at Waveside Church and ending at Our Lady of Malibu Catholic Church.

The group state the protest are
"to remind this nation that they need to worship the one true God instead of these vain movie stars" and "Hollywood freaks."

Westboro plan protests that do not fall through on a regular basis and often lead to counter-protests. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lost Hills/Malibu Station is aware of the planned protests.

Westboro's website says it will "picket the Malibu Presbyterian Church which burned to ground by an angry God in the 2007 wildfires for their disobedience to His standards. Rather than acknowledge that this event occurred at the hands of an angry God and REPENT, on their website, they brag that this adversity brought 'passion, unity and determination.' Let's break that down now."

The group took offense to Waveside Church's message that all are welcome and plans to protest to Our Lady of Malibu because they state the Catholic church is allegedly a "pedophile machine masquerading as a church."

An additional protest is planned at Santa Monica High School on Monday, February 25 at 7 a.m. to tell the students "the Gospel truth" that "every adult in their lives has taught them that they can disobey God... that it is OK to be gay."

The high school's Gay-Straight Alliance may respond to the protest, but yet remain undecided on how to do so.
