MALIBU—It’s time to celebrate! There is finally a marathon in Malibu! The inaugural Malibu International Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on November 15. The marathoners will run 26.2 miles starting near the Camarillo Airport at 7 a.m. and will finish at Zuma Beach in Malibu. The Half Marathon is the last half of the marathon course.
Marathoners will enjoy a fast first half in the flat farm lands of Ventura County and then will run by Pt. Mugu, the “keyway to the coast.” The remainder of the course is along the legendary Pacific Coast Highway with breathtaking views of the great Pacific. The finish line is at the Zuma Beach, where athletes are welcome to run straight into the refreshing ocean.
The team members producing the event are active marathoners. One of the marathon directors has run 270 marathons. He ran the last 70 marathons barefoot. He has also organized races across the country and world, including the Athens Marathon in Greece. Two other director’s make it a goal to run one to two marathons per month. The CEO is competitive in the sport with a personal record of 2 hours and 42 minutes for the marathon distance. These local Malibu citizens are taking the best of what they have seen across the country to produce an outstanding race in the city that they live and train. Spreading the joy (and pain) they found in running and health and fitness is their mission. Bringing together hundreds of people to share in the camaraderie of the sport is their dream. This small team has turned their passion into a career.
Please join the Malibu International Marathon team as they write a weekly column to share their racing experiences and adventures plus training tips for the Malibu International Marathon & Half or any race you may be training for.
