Pacific Design Center to Host State of the Arts Event
Posted by Michelle Lanz on Sep 11, 2005 - 10:15:00 PM

Creative minds will convene on September 25th, when the Pacific Design Center hosts the first ever LA POV event, hosted by book publishing company Dragonon Inc.  The free event, which will run from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. will showcase new talent in the realms of Visual Art, Music, Writing/Publishing, Theater and New Media.

Dragonons featured exhibition, Novel Acts, will introduce a new form of book signing event that is guaranteed to engage the audience completely.   Excerpts from books published by Dragonon will be read aloud by the author with live actors performing part of the scene.   Conventional book reading is boring because writers arent always actors, said featured author and event spearhead Anthony Mora. Often an author will give a reading to 10 or 12 people, 8 of which are familyThis way it is fun for the writer because he or she gets to see the novel come to life and the audience also gets a more interesting experience.

The idea for Novel Acts was originally based in Cincinnati, but the overwhelming response from both media and public outlets prompted Dragonon and Mora to branch out to other cities.  We thought it would be cool to really open it up to a bigger audience, especially an audience that wouldnt normally attend a book reading, added Mora.

In order to reach an even broader audience, Dragonon, Inc. is creating a Virtual Novel Acts which will be available on CD or download.  Skits draw people in, says Mora, These filmed Novel Acts can be used for classes, readers who missed the event or bookstoresThey are what I would call virtual book tours.  Mora also stressed the fact that Novel Acts tours could be used for most genres of literature both fiction and non-fiction.

The event is also a unique opportunity for up and coming authors.  Dragonon, Inc. will be accepting manuscripts at the event with specific submission guidelines available at www. Dragonon.com.   Publishers will then decide on one manuscript to be published on the Dragonon, Inc label.

Featured in the Novel Acts series are "Chosen" by Deborah Meyer, "Russells Revenge" by Dennis Fishel, the paperback version of controversial, award-winning novel, "Bang! A Love Story" by Anthony Mora and "White Crane & other L.A. Stories" by Ann Convery.  For those who cannot make it to the LA POV event, Novel Acts will also be coming to Orange Countys Exhibit Up Gallery and Showcase as part of The Resurrection of Light exhibit beginning on October 21st.  For more information visit www.dragonon.com or contact Anthony Mora Communications at 323-874-2933.
