MELROSE – A fatal accident occured within the eastbound lanes of Melrose Avenue on Monday. A 28 year old Los Angeles man caused a four car, chain vehicle crash which left several people injured and sadly one woman dead.
Willie Faulkner sideswipped a Checker taxicab while it was traveling south
on Crescent Heights Boulevard at its intersection with Melrose Avenue.
Officials have concluded that the accident may have taken place between
2:15 and 2:30 am. Police believe that speed is a factor in this crash and
believe that Faulkner also ran a red light prior to colliding with the
taxicab. As Faulker's vehicle collided into the taxicab, the accident
created a vicious domino effect that involved several other cars on
Within the taxicab, one of the passengers was killed as a result of the
accident. Officials managed to rescue all of the passengers within the
taxicab, however, one of the women later died at Cedars-Sinai Medical
Center. The victim was Sarah Gilfillan of Pasadena. The remaining
passengers were all taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Officials reported that the passengers within Faulkner's vehicle were also
taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
At present, Faulkner is in jail with $170,000 bail. Charges pending
against the man are felony vehicular manslaughter and gross negligence.
Both charges come with hefty penalties if convicted. Witnesses of the
crime are asked to contact local police with any information that they may
have about the accident.
