MELROSE—On the evening of Friday, April 25, a 21-year-old man was shot and killed by two gang members around Melrose and Hobart Boulevard. According to LAPD officials, the victim, Oscar Antonio Escobar, was walking home after buying food for his family at a restaurant nearby, when two suspected gang members approached and shot him.
The shooting occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Friday night. According to a statement released by the LAPD, when LAPD officers arrived at the scene, Escobar was lying in the street with a bullet wound. He died an hour later, after being rushed to USC Hospital. The two suspects who shot Escobar are believed to be Hispanic male gang members in their 20s. They were last seen driving away from the crime scene in a dark colored vehicle.
LAPD investigators are unsure what the motive of the shooting was, and are still investigating the case. Escobar was not suspected to have any gang affiliation, and had a wife and three children.
Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance on this case and are urging anyone who can provide information regarding the shooting to contact Hollywood Homicide Detectives Rolando Rodriguez or Larry Cameron. Rodriguez’s phone number is (213)972-2910 and Cameron’s is (213)972-2913. Additionally, anyone with information can also call the 24-hour toll free number, 1-877-LAWFULL.
