MELROSE—The Department of Transportation is posting signs with new operating hours for parking meters in the Melrose area.
The new operating hours were approved by the City Council in July 2008. Since then, the Department has recalibrated and modernized the parking meters, according to melroseaction.com. The next step in the procedure is to change the signs on the posts in accordance with the hours displayed inside the meters.
The new hours are commonly from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. In areas that existing peak hour parking restrictions are active, customized signs will be ordered to exclude any peak hour restrictions from the new meter hours of operation.
It is important to note that signs bearing the new meter hours have been installed beginning the weekend of September 5, and will continue on weekends, with an expected completion date of October 5.
City staff members post the signs on weekends. Parking Enforcement will begin enforcing the new parking meter times a few days after the new signs are installed. Stakeholders and motorists must remember to read posted parking signs before parking and leaving their vehicles.
