It’s senior month in May and the West Hollywood and Melrose surrounding areas are doing their part in making our seniors feel important. The 11th annual Senior Health Fair featured, presentations, health screenings and representatives from more than 40 community organizations. The event provided free care and checkups.

During the hours of 1
0 a.m. to 1 p.m., the fair included learning about proper dental hygiene, how to lift and carry items in a way that prevents injury, an information session regarding ways to improve driving skills, a nutritional assessment, a body mass index read and blood pressure as well as vision and posture screenings.

“About 200 seniors attended to learn about health issues and programs, and to partake in free screenings and other offerings,” said Wicked Local about last year’s turnout.

The purpose of this fair is purely educational. It provides ample amounts of information that some seniors may not know about their bodies. With a community centered environment and volunteers that provide free exams, the Senior Health Fair is an opportunity to get healthy and learn your body.

Lunch was provided upon reservation by the Hirsch Family Café with a bonus chocolate “tasting experience” that is part of the whole package.
