PACIFIC PALISADES—A man hiking in the Topanga State Park on Saturday, October 19, had to be rescued from an abandoned water tank.
Erik Scott, Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesman, said a 911 call came in around 11:53 a.m. of a man trapped in a 20-foot deep water tank on Sullivan Ridge Fire Road, northeast of Palisades Highlands. He said it was unclear whether the man actually fell into the tank or if he climbed into it.
“Our preliminary information was that there was some wires or cables there that the hiker may have used to climb into the tank and then couldn’t get out himself,” Scott said in a statement.
Upon arrival, LAFD firefighters called in a helicopter to airlift the man out.
“He was hoisted out unhurt and brought to a polo field at Will Rogers State Park where he was met by paramedics,” Scott said. “There was no hospital transport," he added.
