Small Quakes Hit Los Angeles

PACIFIC PALISADES—On Monday, June 6, a 1.2 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter north of Will Rogers State Historic Park was recorded.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) website, the quake hit at 12:13 a.m., and was located near the Santa Monica Mountains, close to Topanga State Park nearing Malibu.
The earthquake followed the 3.4 magnitude earthquake centered in the Willowbrook area in south Los Angeles a few minutes prior, at 12:07 a.m. A 1.5 aftershock was also reported at 12:09 a.m. According to statements, neither temblor caused significant damage, though reports stated residents felt the shake as far north as Chatsworth and as far south as Huntington Beach, Calif.
The USGS classified the Los Angeles quake as having a “weak” shaking intensity and the Pacific Palisades earthquake was rated with a “not felt” shaking intensity.
