PACIFIC PALISADES—Thieves have been regularly breaking into vehicles throughout Pacific Palisades since the beginning of August. Of the 17 thefts from vehicles reported to police since August, five happened since the start of September.
These recent thefts from vehicles occurred in a widespread area in central Pacific Palisades, which does not denote a pattern of movement. The area spans from Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Boulevard in the west to the 1000 block Chautauqua Boulevard to the east, crime report data states.
This same Chautauqua Boulevard street block was targeted by thieves in the middle of July. Two other thefts from vehicles occurred within blocks of this same area to the west on the 1000 block of Galloway Street on September 4 and on the 1000 block of Monument Street during August.
Pacific Palisades Senior Lead Officer Michael Moore told Canyon News that although there are no official leads at this time, he believes that thefts from vehicles that took place on September 8, which includes the one on Chautauqua Boulevard, were committed by the same person(s). The other two crimes were reported as taking place on Pacific Coast Highway at Sunset Boulevard and Bay Club Drive.
Also, a vehicle was scratched on the same Monument Street block sometime between August 30 and September 5.
Property taken from vehicles during these thefts include a rear license plate, a wallet, a purse, money and vitamins, according to information released by Moore on September 13.
Two theft incidents involved suspects breaking windows to gain entry into vehicles and one incident was able to happen because a vehicle's door was unlocked.
All but one of these September thefts from vehicles took place between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The other theft took sometime between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Thefts from vehicles took place in more concentrated areas during August. Four thefts took place between the 500 block of Amalfi Drive and the 200 block of Entrada Drive. And three thefts were reported on a stretch of road starting from Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Boulevard to the 17300 block of Sunset Boulevard.
Moore asks that witnesses to any of these crimes contact him at 310-444-0737.
