SANTA MONICA—The Craig Krull Gallery is currently exhibiting art works of Alexis Smith from April 20 to May 25.
At this exhibition, Smith’s work “Second Nature” employs paint-by-number, black velvet landscapes overlaid with remnants of popular culture and marrowy literary references that combine to offer multi-dimensional readings into relationship with mental construct of landscapes and nature.
A lot of Smiths’ famous work will be present during this exhibition including: “In Rule of Thumb,” a red sweater placed on the top of a landscape print with forest and snow-capped mountains. “The Last Time I Saw Paris,” a night scene of Paris street landscape is covered by a charming medieval lady’s hat. The artwork’s title is painted above the hat.
Smith will talk about her work at the gallery on May 18 at 10 a.m. the event is free but you must reserve your spot on the Craig Krull Gallery website by May 11.
