Murder Suspect's Arraignment Deferred

SANTA MONICA—On August 17, the arraignment set for a man accused of murdering two women was deferred to September.
46-year-old Edric Dashell Gross is a suspect in the 2001 murder of 42-year-old Jacqueline Ovsak and the 2002 murder of 41-year-old Dana Caper. Both women were from Santa Monica.
Gross was reportedly taken into custody by investigators on August 15 while he was sitting in Pan Pacific Park at 141 S. Gardner Street in Los Angeles.
Ovsak's body was found on April 5, 2001, in an abandoned building on 7th Street, which prompted a homicide investigation. A second investigation began on October 29, 2002, with the report of a deceased female on the 800 block of Pacific Palisades Park, where Caper's body was found on the side of the bluffs.
The investigation on each case continued until all leads were exhausted and both went cold; however, in September 2007, cold case investigators restarted the cases, and through D.N.A. processing and new leads, Gross was identified and connected to both killings.
The suspect was booked at the Santa Monica Jail on murder charges. His bail was set at $1,000,000.
"He [Gross] appeared in court on August 17 on two counts of murder," Jane Robison, of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, told Canyon News, "but his arraignment has been put over to September 25 at the Airport Superior Court in Department 144."
The Santa Monica Police Department asks that anyone with additional information on these alleged murders contact Detective Larry Nichols at 310-458-8939 or Sergeant Ira Rutan at 310-458-8959 or S.M.P.D.'s 24-hour line at 310-458-8495.
