SANTA MONICA—On Friday, August 16, a 67-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were struck by a car and seriously injured in a parking structure. The two were pinned against an elevator and a wall inside a garage at Fourth Street.

The crash was reported to the police around 12:40 p.m. in Parking Structure 7, near the entrance of Third Street and Broadway Avenue.

The police believe that the female driver may have mistaken the gas pedal and brake, and hence accelerated towards the victims that were waiting by the elevator. The two victims suffered severe injuries below the waist. One of the victims was pinned to the wall and suffered a head injury of unknown severity.

The victims were taken to a nearby trauma center. Both were listed in critical condition and expected to have surgery from injuries sustained. The driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to authorities.
