SANTA MONICA—A Los Angeles man was arrested on Sunday around 10:00 p.m. after police received complaints that a man was jumping around and shouting at people on the Santa Monica Pier.

Upon receiving reports that the man was causing a disturbance at the police substation on the pier, officers responded and found the man sweating profusely with labored breathing while shouting incoherently and jumping around.

Prior to the officers arrival, the man reportedly picked up a newspaper stand and hurled it at the doors of the police station. Once more officers arrived, the man attempted to escape, brushing off the effects of an X26 Taser, and ran into the Bubba Gump Restaurant. The man took refuge behind the bar of the restaurant, where he began pulling bottles of alcohol to the ground. Police attempted to handcuff the man, but he broke free several times before several officers were able to subdue him.

After being taken into custody the man was hospitalized for issues unrelated to the incident. Police say they will charge the man with resisting officers, vandalism, and being under the influence of a controlled substance. The man also violated conditions of his early release from a prior jail stint.
