At around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, after a 32-year-old unidentified diver who dove off the Santa Monica Pier never returned, LA County Lifeguards alerted the U.S. Coast Guard who sent out a 45 feet rescue boat and helicopter to scan the ocean in attempt to find him. A little after 5:00 p.m., lifeguards spotted the wet-suited diver as he was trying to swim ashore in close proximity to the pier.

While still conscious and breathing, the rescued diver was brought by boat over to Marina del Ray and transported to a local hospital.
