In addition to being a producer, Bromell was also a writer, director, and story editor. He worked on shows including "Rubicon" and "Brotherhood" as well as several TV movies including "Chicago Hope" and "Fitzgerald." His many projects earned him awards from the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA), Producer’s Guild of America (PGA) and the Humanitas Prize.

"Homeland," which was Bromell’s most recent project, earned him a Primetime Emmy Award as well as a Golden Globe for his work as a producer on the show. One of the main reasons Bromell was brought on to work with the series was due to the experience he earned from his father having been in the CIA.

Morena Baccarin, one of the stars of the series took to her twitter account on Tuesday, March 19 to express her condolences: “So saddened by Homeland writer Henry Bromell's passing,” Baccarin wrote. “He was truly a brilliant and kind man. Thoughts and prayers are with his family. RIP.”

The Facebook account for "Homeland" also posted this message: “We are deeply saddened at the loss of our dear friend Henry Bromell, who has been a part of the Showtime family for over a decade. Henry was an immensely talented and prolific writer, director and showrunner, and his work on Brotherhood and Homeland was nothing short of brilliant. His passion, warmth, humor and generosity will be greatly missed. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his wife and family.”

Bromell is survived by his wife, Sarah, and his two sons, William and Jake.
