Screening Of "Unfinished Space" At Library
Posted by Shine Huang on Apr 4, 2013 - 9:10:24 AM

SANTA MONICA—On April 3, in a press release, the Santa Monica Public Library announced a screening for the documentary film “Unfinished Space” (2011) will be hosted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 at the Main Library’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium located at 601 Santa Monica Blvd.

“Unfinished Space” is directed by Alysa Nahmias and Benjamin Murray. It tells the story of the construction of the Cuban National Arts School on a former club golf course by Fidel Castro’s commission. The project was suddenly stopped half-way due to domestic revolution. The school is in use 40 years later, but remains unfinished. Three artists who designed this architecture have a second chance to finish their dreams from the 80s.

The documentary presents the artists’ struggles frustration and contribution to their craft, while also showcasing a view of Cuba’s revolution.

After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with Advisory Board members Stephen Harby and Ken Breisch. Harby has led several architectural study tours to Havana. Breisch is the SAH National First Vice President and a professor of architectural history at the USC School of Architecture.

This event is open to public and free. Any questions or request for special disabled services, may contact the Library Administration at 310-458-8606 at least one week prior to the event.
