SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Symphony will perform the last concert at the Civic Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., this Saturday, May 25.
This will be the last concert for the Santa Monica Symphony for the 2012-2013 season. It will also be the last orchestral performance in the Civic Auditorium.
The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium is going to be closed in June and there is no plan of restoration at the moment. There is no further information of when the auditorium will re-open in the future.
During the Saturday concert which is named the Tchaikovsky Spectacular, it will include the following program: Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite as the opening act, Rococo Variations for Cello and Orchestra, Symphony No. 5 in e-minor OP.64 and 1812 Overture as a close.
The concert is designed by Guido Lamell, music director of the Santa Monica Symphony.
"I selected the Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite because of its parallels to the Civic Auditorium’s closing,” said Lamell. “This, as I said, is our home and I will do whatever is in my power to help bring back the Civic Auditorium, or to build a new Performing Arts Center, in greater glory than ever."
The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium is located at 1855 Main Street. The performance is free to public.
