SANTA MONICA—On Wednesday, July 17, the California Pizza Kitchen in Santa Monica held a fundraiser for a Santa Monica resident that was injured in a swimming accident last month.
All day, any order at the California Pizza Kitchen that is accompanied with the flyer, will result in 20 percent of the revenue going to the survivor’s fund. The California Pizza Kitchen that is participating in the fundraiser is located at 210 Wilshire Boulevard, near the Third Street promenade.
The survivor is Jesus Antonio Torres, a longtime resident who was injured in a swimming accident on June 20 at a Santa Monica beach. After the accident, he was taken to the Santa Monica/UCLA Hospital ICU. Mr. Torres attended Santa Monica public schools.
He was a member of the Santa Monica Police Department Explorer Post for seven years and has been involved in many other civic activities including Santa Monica PAL, Youth Leadership Council, and tutoring youth.
After graduating from Santa Monica High School, he chose to attend the University of California, Santa Cruz. He became the first member of his family to graduate from college only six days before the accident.
