Santa Monica News
Next Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members can drop off expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs at the Santa Monica Police Department at 333 Olympic Drive.
This event is free, anonymous and no questions will be asked. Officers will be present at the driveway for your convenience to drive through and drop off drugs.
SMPD and Drug Enforcement Administration want to encourage the public to dispose of their unused pills safely through this event. The habit of flushing pills down the toilet or throwing them in trash could lead to potential safety and health problems. According to a DEA report, they received a total of 244 tons of prescription pills from all over the nation last September.
“Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse,” according to a statement by SMPD. This will be the fourth time Santa Monica participates in the nationwide disposal event.
