SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance to locate the suspect who attempted to kidnap a woman. The attempted kidnapping occurred on July 9. According to the SMPD, at approximately 5:45 p.m., a woman who resides on 2200 Colorado Ave. was assaulted by an unknown assailant as she walked to her vehicle in the parking garage.

The victim was able to fight off her attacker who ran away. The suspect is being described by authorities as a White male, in his late 30s to early 40s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black shirt, black baggy pants, a black baseball style cap, black sunglasses and wearing a black backpack.

Canyon News spoke to Sgt. Rudy Camarena of the SMPD about the incident who indicated that authorities have not received any additional information from witnesses.

“We have some anonymous tip line reports that are being investigated. The suspect did not have a gun. There was never any report that he was armed. We are not aware of any similar incidents in the area/region; however, as with most investigations detectives are sharing information with adjacent agencies to ensure that if a pattern emerges we will identify it as soon as possible,” said Sgt. Camarena.

The female victim informed police that the suspect’s face was “thin” and he had a “pointy” chin and nose. Authorities are reminding residents to be aware of their surroundings in and around their cars and in parking garages. Anyone with information on the incident should contact Detective Michael Bambrick at (310) 458-8932, Sgt. Thomas McLaughlin at (310) 458-8430 or the Watch Commander at (310) 458-8427.

Callers can also contact Crime Stoppers by either calling (800) 222-TIPS, texting from your mobile, or by visiting their website at www.lacrimestoppers.org. Callers may remain anonymous and may be qualified to receive a $1,000.00 reward by Crime Stoppers.
