SANTA MONICA—With Earth Day near, the city of Santa Monica prepares with its first ever Kidical Mass Ride on Saturday, April 13.
Hosted by The City of Santa Monica's Office of Sustainability and the Environment, Strategic and Transportation Planning, Active Santa Monica and Sustainable Works, the event will hold a bicycle trial for families to participate in with trained route leaders on hand.
In keeping with the theme of green and Earth Day, the event is to bring awareness in the Safe Routes to School Campaign-which advocates for families to use more bicycles than vehicles to save money, gas and energy while protecting the environment.
Families and their children are encouraged to wear green to celebrate the theme of Earth Day and bring their helmets for the bicycle ride taking around an hour, starting and finishing at John Adams Middle School. Families are allowed to ride alongside their children for the bicycle movement that seeks to promote a healthy environment and community for all its residents.

"The day to day world of bicycling in Santa Monica is going to include more and more kids,” said Cynthia Rose, Santa Monica Spokesperson on the city’s website. “This event is just one way that we can introduce Santa Monica families to a range of transportation choices and the joy of bicycling. We are looking forward to participating in this fun family bike ride."
Following the bike ride, there will be activities lined up such as a pizza party, prizes as well as a helmet decoration booth. John Adams Middle School is located at 2425 16th Street, Santa Monica, and will be open and free to the public of all ages.
In order to participate in the bicycle ride, families must RSVP by April 11th by calling (310) 458-8716. For more information about the event, visit http://www.smgov.net.
