March To Celebrate Women’s History Month

SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) will celebrate March as Women's History Month and the 2013 theme "Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)."The COSW is planning to promote month long events throughout the city designed to support and promote women’s achievements, courage and diversity, as stated in a press release from the city’s website.
During the month of March, the city will work alongside a variety of city and local organizations to represent a wide range of programming to celebrate women’s achievements among them lectures, exhibitions and panel discussions.
"We are honored to collaborate with our
Santa Monica area partners working to promote a rich history of women and girls in our community. Their exemplary pioneering work, scientific breakthroughs, invention of new technology, and creation of business opportunities in STEM will be recognized throughout the month" says Sylvia Ghazarian, Vice Chair of the Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women.
The celebration will kick-off on Tuesday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m., at
Santa MonicaCity Hall on
1685 Main Street. Following immediately after, will be the proclamation by City Council and the Mayor officially declaring March as Women’s History Month.A photography exhibit of
Santa Monica women throughout history in City Hall’s Foyer will also take place. It is open to the public.
