SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Public Library has started its first Adult Summer Reading Program called “Groundbreaking Reads.” The program will include author talks, book discussions, and film screenings.

The first event of the program is “Blind Date with a Book.” The books are wrapped in plain paper with a short description on the front and placed on a display in the library’s lobby. According to the Santa Monica Public Library, concealing the books’ identities encourages readers to discover new authors and genres they may have never read before.
