SANTA MONICA—The city of Santa Monica has decided to add more stop signs on Broadway Boulevard in an effort to reduce collisions in some of its most dangerous intersections.
An intersection at Broadway Boulevard.
The new changes will occur in the residential area of Broadway Boulevard east of 26th Street. At the moment, only two of the six intersections are four way stops; the rest are two-way stops with east and west bound traffic being unimpeded. The new stop signs are expected to decrease collisions which happen at a higher than average rate in the area.
Initially, officials had proposed making all six intersections into four way stops, but that idea was rebuked by many since they argued it would severely impede traffic. The city will be installing additional stop signs at only two of the intersections, so that four out of the six intersections will now be four way stops.
Residents near the affected intersections will receive notices informing them of the newly established stop signs.
