Posted by LaDale Anderson on Dec 20, 2012 - 8:43:12 AM

SANTA MONICA—Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the attempted murder of a female on Saturday, December 8.  According to a press release from the Santa Monica Police Department, officers arrived near the 1800 block of Pico Blvd. to investigate a shooting that occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m.  Officers discovered that an African-American female victim, 18, sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

During the initial investigation, officers discovered that the victim was attending a memorial car wash at Pico and 19th Street when for unknown reasons she began fleeing the parking lot to Pico Boulevard where she flagged down a vehicle driving westbound in the region.  “As she entered the vehicle, the suspect ran up and fired several rounds from a handgun into the vehicle striking the victim. The driver of the vehicle sped off and called 911 once he reached the corner of Lincoln and Pico Boulevard.  The driver was not injured,” states the press release.

The victim was transported to the northeast corner of Lincoln and Pico Boulevard where she was treated by paramedics and the Santa Monica Fire Department.  She was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
