Active Marine Assaulted By Unidentified Man

SANTA MONICA—In a press release issued by the Santa Monica Police Department on Tuesday, April 30, Sergeant Richard Lewis is asking for the public’s help in locating a man suspected of causing bodily harm to an active duty United States marine.

On February 22, the SMPD responded to a call made from the Zanzibar nightclub located at 1301 5th Street regarding an assault. Police reports state that the victim was dancing in the nightclub when, without provocation, the suspect struck him in the face. After which the victim fell to the floor and lost consciousness for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.


The victim’s friend, who stepped in the middle of the victim and the suspect, was also assaulted and suffered minor injuries. The suspect then left the nightclub and headed south on to 5th Street.


Witnesses describe the suspect as a White or Hispanic male in his mid to late 30s, standing approximately 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighing between 230 to 270 pounds. He was seen wearing a black and white stripped shirt and dark jeans the night the assault took place.


The suspect was also seen with a Hispanic or Asian female between the ages of 28 to 32. The woman is described as having a medium build standing between 5 feet, 2 inches to 5 feet, 4 inches tall. The, unidentified woman, was last seen at the Zanzibar club wearing a gold colored shirt.
