SMPD Searching For Sexual Assault Suspect

SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police are on the search for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman at the beach on Christmas.

The attack occurred at approximately 6 p.m. while the woman was walking northbound at the 2700 block of the beach, two miles south of the Santa Monica Pier. The suspect ran towards the woman and grabbed her in a bear hug.

The man proceeded to push her down to the ground and forced her legs apart. The woman fought back against the attacker who eventually ran away. She attempted to pursue him and screamed for help, but he managed to flee from the scene of the crime.

She described the man who tried to assault her as Latino, about 25-30 years old and about 5'6" to 5'10" tall. He is said to have a medium build and is described to be physically fit. He has dark eyes and thick black eyebrows. During the attack, the man was wearing a black collared shirt, a dark jacket and dark jeans.

It is reported that there were two people riding bikes near the attack who witnessed the chase. Investigators are hoping that they will come forward with additional information.
