SANTA MONICA—Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the stabbing that occurred over two weeks ago at a Santa Monica High School (SAMOHI) football game against Venice High at Santa Monica College.

On October 2, Kenneth Keith Jones, 19, and Christopher Jerome Diaz, 18, were arrested and booked for attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.  The stabbing did not appear to be gang-related. 

The football game ended in an attempted homicide investigation on September 25, when a 17-year-old Hispanic Inglewood male was stabbed multiple times after Santa Monica High School’s defeat against Venice High School at Santa Monica’s Corsair Field.  According to a press release from the Santa Monica Police Department at the time of the attack, “The initial investigation revealed that the victim…was assaulted by the suspect as he left the football stadium.” 

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. 

Since the stabbing, the SMMUSD has been working with officials to see what necessary changes should be made to ensure the safety of all individuals who attend future sport events.
