Posted by Shine Huang on May 19, 2013 - 6:33:21 PM

SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica City Hall received a Bicycle Friendly Community Sliver Award from the League of American Bicyclists on Wednesday, May 15.

The League of American Bicyclists is a bicycle friendly community program that provides a roadmap to improve conditions for bicycling in the community and offers national recognition for communities that support bicycling. A bicycle friendly community welcomes cyclists by encouraging people to bike for transportation and recreation, and providing safe accommodations.

Santa Monica also earned a score of 82 out 100, of bike friendly survey on Walk Score.

The scores indicates that the city is bike friendly and a walkable community. The score is calculated by population density, numbers of bikers, infrastructures, bike lanes, and other factors, block by block through the city.

If a city earns a score of 70 or above it is considered to be very bike friendly; a city with a score between 50 and 69 is considered bikeable.
