One of the trails expected to re-open is Rancho Sierra Vista in Newbury Park, but according to the National Park Service, several other trails will continue to remain closed and the park will be off-limits from sunset to sunrise.
Due to enduring safety concerns and trail damage, Sycamore Canyon will not be accessible for visitors, however, hikers will be able to access the overlook at the boundary with Point Mugu State Park.
Along with Rancho Sierra Vista, the Sandstone Peak and Mishe Mokwa trailheads will re-open, as well as the Backbone Trail that lies just east of the Point Mugu State Park boundary.
It’s estimated by park officials that 70 percent of Rancho Sierra Vista was affected by the fire. The Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center and all other park-related structures were unharmed.
