SANTA MONICA—One of the most popular places posted on Instagram is the Santa Monica Pier, ranking in at #10 on the list of the world’s top most Instagrammed areas.

The place that “offers something for all crowds, whether they come to fish, enjoy thrill rides, be entertained or just go for a simple, peaceful walk,” as stated on the pier’s website, has been ranked as one of the most popular places to post on Instagram, joined by other California attractions such as Disneyland, LAX, Dodger Stadium and the Staples Center.

Thousands of photos of the pier’s scenery, sunsets on the beach, Pacific Park, the Ferris wheel, and lit up nighttime views surfaced on the popular iPhone app during 2012, putting the pier in the top ten. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport came in at #1, with over 100,000 photos.

On Sunday, December 30, the pier kicked off the New Year with sounds of the Roots of Music, a New Orleans non-profit organization that provides music education for over 100 students in the New Orleans area. The band marched from the Santa Monica Pier sign to the west end, where they performed a show for residents and visitors of the area.
