Santa Monica Police Shutdown MTV Concert
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Nov 14, 2012 - 6:35:32 PM

SANTA MONICA—MTV gave out free tickets for a concert that featured DJ Flux Pavilion at the Santa Monica Airport's Hangar 8 on Tuesday, November 13. However, the event was shut down by the Santa Monica police and two men were arrested by the end of the night.

The hangar has a capacity of 1,500 people, however, the Santa Monica police estimated there were between 2,500 and 3,000 people that showed up with printed tickets. Officers working for the event called for backup due to the large group of people.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., an hour after the event began, additional police officers arrived from the Los Angeles, Culver City and Beverly Hills police departments and determined the crowd was too large to control. Police cut the music and shutdown the party at 9:30 p.m. when there were only about 400 people inside, but as many as 2,000 more waiting in line outside.

When the music was cut off, police state that angry attendees began to climb fences in an attempt to enter the airport. By 11 p.m., the mass of people were gone and two arrests were made for public intoxication. Police remained in the area until midnight to turn away late-arriving attendees.

The British dub-step DJ and producer's popular song, "I Can't Stop," was sampled in Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch the Throne" album and was featured on the video for the online "Kony 2012" campaign.

"So...Helicopters and LAPD with riot gear outside this airport hangar right now" the DJ tweeted around 11 p.m. to over 180,000 followers. He tweeted again stating, "Wow I'm gobsmacked truly. All I can say is, you guys are the reason I'm here, your support means the world to me."

When many angry fans tweeted their frustrations towards the event being shutdown, the DJ tweeted the following morning using an expletive to describe the police and proved to be angry over the former night's events as well.
