SANTA MONICA—On Saturday, December 8 Santa Monica will hold its first ever Bike Fest at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

From 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the public is welcome to join in on the fun festivities being held at the auditorium, including bike swapping, bike skills training, test rides, and other workshops. There will be food and a number of other fun activities. Parents and children are encouraged to dust off their bikes in the garage and put them to good use, by either donating or swapping it for another one. There will also be the option for parents to try out different bikes and bike accessories used for holding children.

The L.A. non-profit organization CICLE (Cyclists Initiating Change thru Live Exchange), who “work to promote the bicycle as a viable, healthy, and sustainable transportation choice” as stated on their website will be offering bike skills training seminars for children and for parents to learn how to teach their kids how to ride a bike. Helmets will be required for children, and will be offered at a low cost.

In addition to bike donating, swapping, and training, there will be other exciting events to check out, like local food trucks, a photo booth, bike and helmet decoration stations, route planning assistance, a bike that churns ice cream, safety information, and information booths held by other bicycle groups such as Ciclavia and Metro.

Parking with a bike is free, and auto parking is $1 an hour. The Civic Auditorium is located at 1855 Main St. For more information, please visit
