SANTA MONICA—On Saturday, December 17, Santa made his grand entrance at the Santa Monica Pier on a dory as he was escorted by lifeguards. Santa’s grand entrance on the pier brought a smile to the faces of several children and adults who waited impatiently. The guests were invited to meet Santa and to take photos with the jolly gent. The event was free to the public and to the many tourists from all over the world who visit the pier every day.

The children at the event were full of joy as they took free rides on the historic Merry-Go-Round during Santa’s visit, and enjoyed a variety of holiday treats.
But the fun did not stop there as the Cirque Du Soleil’s Truck made a quick stop at the pier and encouraged adults and children to take part in an interactive experience with the unique characters of the OVO show.
Later in the afternoon, guests also had the opportunity to enjoy an old-fashioned caroling troupe from the Green Brooms Music Academy. The caroler’s sang holidays favorites as they walked around spreading holiday cheer.
“I love bringing my children to the pier and it is the perfect place to spend some quality time with the family, especially around these Christmas days,” a visitor to the pier told Canyon News.
Santa’s grand arrival and the free Carousel’s ride was part of the 2011 Holiday Open House event at the Santa Monica Pier.A canned food drive taking place until December 18 was also a feature of the event. The pier, in collaboration with the non-profit origination Upward Bound, encouragedpeople to drop off their food items in support of homeless families in need.
The Santa Monica Pier is open 24 hours a day year-round and hosts several events throughout the year.
